I’m working with Portland city councilor Anna Trevorrow to raise funds for the Maine Africans Asylum Resource Center to benefit asylum seekers in Portland. As you may know, Portland is out of space in emergency shelters for the unhoused. The city is moving forward with a plan to create a new 180-bed homeless shelter which will not only help asylum seekers – it will also take pressure off our other shelters.
But it will take a while for that to come online and people still need a place to stay. Asylum seekers are not even able to apply for work for 180 days due to federal regulations. If you have the means and the inclination, please donate or share the link to the fundraiser.
You can read more about the fundraiser in the Portland Press Herald.
Thanks!
